The thirteenth General Assembly of the Conference of Rectors in the Middle East Region (CONFREMO)


On Monday, 27 September 2021, the thirteenth General Assembly of the Conference of Rectors in the Middle East Region (CONFREMO) was held. The event was hosted online by the University of Cyprus, and organized in cooperation with the Francophone Universities Rectors Bureau in the Middle East and the Francophone University Agency in the Middle East.

It is worth mentioning that the Conference of Rectors in the Middle East Region (CONFREMO) in its thirteenth edition will continue until today Tuesday, September 28.

The conference was chaired by Prof. Dr. Essam ElKordi, President of the CONFREMO and President of Alamein International University.

The first day of the conference was attended by Mr. Jean- Noël Baléo, Regional Director of the AUF in the Middle East, Mr. Nidaa Abu Mrad, Vice-President of the CONFREMO, in addition to the thematic committees heads, the Francophone universities Rectors in the Middle East, who are members of CONFREMO, and their representatives.

The conference first day activities included opening speeches delivered by Mr. Tasos Christofides, Rector of the University of Cyprus, Prof. Dr. Essam ElKordi, President of the CONFREMO, and Mr. Jean- Noël Baléo, Regional Director of the AUF in the Middle East. These speeches were followed by a workshop on the entrepreneurial universities and their role in promoting entrepreneurship in higher education. Then the activities of the first day were concluded with a CONFREMO GA closed meeting session for the election of CONFREMO new President, Vice-President, in addition to the heads of the four thematic committees.
Prof. Dr. Lara Boustany, the current Rector of Sagesse University (Université La Sagesse) in Lebanon, was elected as the president of the CONFREMO, and Prof. Dr. Mahmoud Al-Metiny, the current president of Ain Shams University, was elected as the vice-president of the CONFREMO, in addition to the election of the thematic committees heads.
