Under the patronage of Essam Elkordi, President of the University, and the supervision of Hesham Gaber, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and within the framework of the University’s commitment to supporting international academic cooperation and promoting engagement in addressing shared challenges and developing solutions, Khadija Ahmed Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, participated in the International Conference for Iraqi Pharmacy Colleges, following an official invitation from the Head of the Iraqi Pharmacy Deans Committee.
A workshop was also organized by the Al-Nahrain Center for Strategic Studies, attended by deans of Iraqi and Arab faculties of pharmacy, to discuss mechanisms for developing curricula in line with international academic standards and adopting competency-based education. The discussions further emphasized strengthening the integration between basic sciences and clinical applications, as well as incorporating modern technologies, digital education, and simulation into the educational process to ensure the graduation of pharmacists capable of keeping pace with scientific and professional advancements.
Key topics discussed included:
– Challenges facing the pharmacy profession in the Arab world and the shift toward clinical pharmacy and healthcare-oriented practice.
Legislative and regulatory challenges, along with professional ethics in practice.
– The impact of economic changes and the pharmaceutical market on the current status and future of the profession.
The conference also highlighted the importance of practical training, fostering entrepreneurial skills, building effective partnerships with both public and private sectors, enhancing Arab and international academic cooperation, and pursuing institutional accreditation. In addition, participants reviewed ways to strengthen collaboration among Arab faculties of pharmacy, promote the exchange of expertise among faculty members and students, work toward harmonizing academic accreditation and quality assurance standards, and establish joint research networks that contribute to advancing pharmaceutical education and serving the community.
