Under the patronage of Essam Elkordi, President of Alamein International University, Hesham Gaber, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Khadija Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and within the framework of the project “Capacity Building Towards Designing a Point-of-Care Diagnostic Tool for Infectious Diseases”, funded by the Science, Technology and Innovation Funding Authority, the university organized a specialized scientific workshop entitled:
“Unlocking the Key of Life: Whole Genome Sequencing and Big Data Analysis Workshop”
The workshop was held at the university campus from March 29 to April 1, 2026. The event was led by Alaa Abou El-Fotouh, Director of the Clinical Pharmacy Program and Principal Investigator of the project, with the participation of a distinguished team of young researchers and the University’s Public Relations Department, as part of ongoing efforts to support scientific research and strengthen research capacities in advanced biomedical fields.
The workshop featured a rich scientific program that included a series of specialized lectures delivered by a distinguished group of experts and researchers in genome data analysis from the United Kingdom and Egypt, including:
– Benjamin Evans – University of East Anglia
-Alaa Abou El-Fotouh – Alamein International University
– Hazem Ramadan – Mansoura University
– Ziad El-Gammal – Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi
-Nefertiti El-Nekhili – Alamein International University
– Ahmed Al-Yazbi – Alamein International University
The program also included a specialized hands-on training session in genome analysis, delivered by David Baker from the Quadram Institute, providing participants with the opportunity to apply theoretical concepts and acquire advanced practical skills.
The workshop concluded with an outstanding presentation session delivered by young researchers, during which they showcased the outcomes of their scientific work, reflecting a high level of competence and innovation.
The event brought together more than 68 participants, including faculty members, early-career researchers, university students and alumni, as well as participants from the “Next Generation Researchers” program. Attendees also included representatives from several prestigious academic institutions, including Alamein International University, Alexandria University, and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport.
