Under the patronage of Professor Essam Elkordi, President of Alamein International University, Professor Hesham Gaber, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Professor Khadija Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and as part of Alamein International University’s commitment to supporting scientific research and strengthening international academic collaboration, the University participated in the International Social Pharmacy Workshop Conference, hosted by University College Cork in Cork, Ireland, from 28 June to 2 July 2026, under the theme, “PHARMACY FIRST PEOPLE FOREMOST.”
The conference brought together participants from approximately 20 countries worldwide, including the United States, Ireland, the United Kingdom, Australia, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, the Netherlands, Portugal, Spain, Canada, New Zealand, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, Pakistan, Indonesia, Ghana, Taiwan, and Fiji, in addition to dozens of prestigious international universities and research centers. The program featured oral presentations, poster sessions, and interactive workshops.
During the conference, Alamein International University presented a research paper entitled, “Pharmacists and Ramadan: Knowledge, Attitudes, and Clinical Interventions Supporting Safe Fasting, A Systematic Review,” which is translated into Arabic as, “Pharmacists and the Month of Ramadan: Knowledge, Attitudes, and Clinical Interventions Supporting Safe Fasting, A Systematic Review.”
This research is the outcome of a joint collaboration between Alamein International University and the University of Wisconsin, Madison, USA. It represents a continuation of a series of specialized scientific studies in this field that began in 2012 under the leadership of Dr. Mohamed Ezzat Amin and Dr. Betty Chewning. The research team included Dr. Mohamed Ezzat Amin and Dr. Amani El-Bassiouni representing Alamein International University, in collaboration with Dr. Betty Chewning and Dr. Mohamed Shoukry Noweigi representing the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
The paper was selected for one of the conference’s official oral presentation sessions, where it received significant attention and praise from participants for its scientific findings and practical recommendations that contribute to advancing comprehensive pharmaceutical care and enhancing patient safety during the holy month of Ramadan. On the sidelines of the conference, Dr. Mohamed Ezzat Amin met with a number of Egyptian PhD students enrolled in pharmacy programs at University College Cork.
A productive discussion session was held to explore their future research plans and examine ways to support them in conducting scientific studies related to pharmacy practice and pharmacists in Egypt, thereby strengthening research collaboration and the exchange of expertise.
