Alamein International University, in collaboration with the New Alamein City Authority and the Alexandria Quantum Computing Group, achieved a distinguished international milestone by securing first place at the African level and second place globally in the UNESCO Quantum City Prize competition.
The results were officially announced during the closing ceremony of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, organized by UNESCO in Accra, Ghana, from 10 to 11 February 2026.
The competition was held as part of the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology, organized by UNESCO throughout 2025 pursuant to a resolution of the United Nations General Assembly. The initiative aimed to promote quantum science and technology concepts in public spaces and make them accessible to non specialists through innovative and engaging approaches.
Within this framework, Alamein International University, in cooperation with the New Alamein City Authority, organized a dedicated interactive space in New Alamein City to present the fundamental concepts of quantum science and technology to the public in creative and simplified ways. The initiative sought to introduce diverse segments of society to quantum science and quantum computing through interactive stations, educational games, and engaging activities designed to raise awareness of the field’s significance and its role in shaping future technologies.
The event also highlighted the pioneering role of Alamein International University AIU in fostering innovation, advancing education, and strengthening scientific outreach within the community.
Students from the QAIU student family at the Faculty of Computer Science and Engineering led the public engagement activities, explaining quantum technology through interactive games and simplified methods tailored to various age groups. The initiative attracted significant public interest, with many attendees expressing their desire to learn more about studying this specialization through Alamein International University and the Alexandria Quantum Computing Group.
The activities took place on Thursday, 28 August 2025, at the Heritage City, and on Friday, 29 August 2025, at the Tourist Promenade in New Alamein City, in an interactive atmosphere that reflected strong community engagement and growing interest in quantum science and technology.
