AIU Hosts Specialized Workshop on Sports Pharmacy and Sports Psychiatry to Promote the Integration of Physical and Mental Health

Under the patronage of Professor Essam Elkordi, President of Alamein International University, Professor Hesham Gaber, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and Professor Khadija Ismail, Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and within the framework of the “Health Promoting University” initiative, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Alamein International University organized a specialized scientific workshop titled:

Sports Pharmacy & Sports Psychiatry: Integrating Physical and Mental Health for Peak Performance

The workshop was held on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the university campus and was organized by the student club Pharmacore AIU.

The event featured a series of specialized scientific lectures delivered by distinguished speakers, including:

– Dr. Mohi El-Din Al-Jaafari:

Consultant in Sports Pharmacy and Anti-Doping, accredited by the International Olympic Committee, and member of the Medical Committee of the Egyptian Football Association.

– Dr. Nancy Ali Mahfouz:

Clinical Pharmacy Supervisor at the Department of Neurology and Psychiatry, Alexandria University Hospitals, and Lecturer at Alamein International University.

The workshop provided Alamein International University students with a valuable opportunity to explore several important topics, most notably the harmful practices and health risks resulting from the misuse of medications and nutritional supplements for performance enhancement, in addition to the mental health challenges that athletes may face throughout their sporting careers.

The sessions also addressed the international regulations and standards established by the World Anti-Doping Agency, ensuring the safe and effective use of medications, while highlighting the vital role of pharmacists as essential members of the medical teams of national squads and sports clubs.

The event witnessed strong attendance from faculty members and students representing various colleges, reflecting the growing interest in modern and specialized fields that connect health sciences with sports.

Participants expressed their appreciation for the outstanding scientific value delivered through the workshop, emphasizing its importance in opening new career pathways for pharmacists through the field of sports pharmacy. They also demonstrated clear interest in the specialization on both academic and professional levels.

The workshop concluded with an engaging interactive session that brought students and speakers together, featuring a question-and-answer segment marked by enthusiastic participation and insightful discussions among attendees.
